About the Ranch
 |
|
Wilderness Ranch lies within the boundaries
of the 40,000 acre San Mateo Wilderness area in the Southern Santa Ana Mountains,
approximately 18 miles from Southern California's coast. The Ranch is within a two-hour
drive of the Los Angeles basin and within a one-hour drive from Orange and Riverside
County's population centers. |
| Adjacent to thousands of acres of national
forest land and completely surrounded by federal wilderness, the Ranch sits approx. 2800
ft. above sea level. Due to its altitude, clean air, and lack of city lights, the
Ranch offers unobstructed viewing of the stars. Its remote location
and coastal influence offers ocean breezes, clean air, and clean water. The Ranch is a
place where people can experience the changing of the seasons. Blankets of wildflowers
arrive in the spring, deciduous trees change color in the fall, and there are times in the
winter when we get a dusting of snow. |

 |
|
 |
Within the boundaries of the wilderness are
over 60 miles of beautiful scenic trails. The terrain and varying elevations bring deep
canyons with year-round creeks and waterfalls, mountaintop vistas with expansive ocean
views, and large grassy meadows with oak forests. |
|
|
Along the trails one may observe any number
of animals such as badgers, bobcats, coyotes, deer, raccoons, and on rare occasion,
mountain lions. In addition, there are over 100 different species of birds that frequent
the area, including golden eagles. |
 |
|
The Ranch enjoys Southern California's ideal weather,
making it well suited for outdoor activities by day and campfires, and star
gazing by night. Even the winter season (January, February, and March)
provides some of the best riding and hiking weather of the year. The mountains are lush
green, and the waterfalls and creeks are at their peak.
Join us around the campfire for a slice of the West served
gourmet style. Just bring your personal gear and a sense of adventure!
